Mike Waller Yacht Design is a business specialising in boat plans for amateur boat builders. We provide stock plans for both monohull and multihull sailing vessels, including sailing skiffs and sharpies. Our designs mainly feature timber construction, in plywood or cedar strip plank composite construction, using the W.E.S.T. system (wood epoxy saturation technique). Our designs are intended mainly as cruising boats, although several have done well in racing.

WHAT'S ON THE DRAWING BOARD
The one area where simplicity has been compromised is in the centerboards. This boat features tandem centerboards, which have several advantages over a single board. The tandem boards are smaller, and can be placed forward and aft so that they interfere less with the accomodations than does a single centrally located board. Tandem boards also allow the boat to be ultimately balanced on any point of sail in any weather conditions (a blessing for short handed sailing). Two boards are a little more work to construct, but as each board is smaller, the extra work is not as much as first thought, and this is more than outweighed by the advantages.
The current DBS26 CK has a cat/ketch rig with unstayed masts in timber and fiberglass. The standard stayed ketch rig version will feature alloy masts. The standard rig has some advantages over the cat/ketch, in that it allows a larger sail area with lower center of effort, thus improving both stability and performance. Since structural requirements differ for each rig style, this will be a seperate design version.
The accomodation is arranged for a family of 4 or 5, with two large berths aft, a single berth forward which can be converted to a double, and twin settees which can be converted to single berths. The W.C. is located in the forward cabin and can be closed off for privacy.
This boat is being designed as time allows - we cannot give a date for it's completion as this will depend on other work obligations.
DECEPTION BAY SHARPIE 26
The Deception Bay 26 is a very simple sharpie designed with an eye towards more modern styling and better accomodation than is typical of many sharpies. Currently she is available as a Cat Ketch version, and will eventually be joined by a standard ketch rig version.
Construction is all plywood, using the timber / epoxy construction technique. The construction of the hull has been kept as simple as possible, in keeping with the original concept of sharpies being simple, inexpensive boats. To this aim, the sides and bottom are simple, flat panels without compound curves which require complex molding.
